This didn't have quite the same impact that The Handmaid's Tale did, but I still really enjoyed it.
I think perhaps because I read The Handmaid's Tale for the first time just last month, and then quickly bought and read The Testaments, I didn't have quite the same expectations from the sequel than those who read The Handmaid's Tale years earlier may have done.
Also, I knew it wouldn't quite be the same. The Handmaid's Tale was so good because of the questions that still lingered, because of what we did and didn't know, and because of the way it was written. Whereas The Handmaid's Tale is written from the point of view of one person, The Testaments has three narrators. The Testaments does fill in some of the gaps, without really spoiling the effects of The Handmaid's Tale. We don't know for sure if the events of The Testaments link to The Handmaid's Tale, although there are very strong hints that they do.
I loved the writing in this, and have read most of it in one day. It's quite fast paced, and I liked the plot, as well as the nods to current political events.
Overall, I would rate this as somewhere around 4 or 4.5 stars. Not quite a 5, as it didn't have the same emotional impact as The Handmaid's Tale, but still a very good book, in my opinion.
