The best of the trilogy. “Sam’s New Pet” traumatized me as a kid, although the more I read it and after I read the author’s notes, it definitely has some racist connotations towards Mexicans (and I am Mexican). Other favorites include: “Bess” and “Maybe You Will Remember.”

Very scary and an improvement over the first. Collected of silly and creepy stories passed down throughout the years, with cool, realistic, gritty, spooky illustrations.
Still not as scary as my memory serves from childhood, but I do think the creepiest, most unsettling stories were from this book. Who could forget the harrowing tale of "Harold" and the bloody skin he dries in the sun? Or the pale lady who creeps into your room in "The Dream?" Or the gaslighting Parisians in "Maybe You Will Remember?"
I think this is my favorite of the trilogy.

I think this volume contains the most popular, well-known stories. I look forward to sharing these with my nieces when they’re a bit older.

The best of the three in my opinion. Most stories were lackluster but there were 3 standout good ones.
“Harold”, “The Dream”, And “Maybe You Will Remember” were the ones I enjoyed.
***Spoilers Below*****
“Harold” was phenomenal just because the ending line legit gave me chills. “As Alfred watched, Harold kneeled and stretched out a bloody skin to dry in the sun.” This creepy freaking scare crow skinned that guy! For what purpose?!
“The Dream” is shrouded in a bias because it was also my favorite scene in the recent film adaptation, but this one is good simply because the accompanying drawing is terrifying.
“Maybe You Will Remember” was actually really interesting because of the source material provided in the back of the book about a plague victim hidden away in Paris.
