Plastisch en poëtisch geschreven. De helaasheid der dingen is donker, cynisch en beschrijft heel wat schokkende, hartbrekende scènes maar is tegelijkertijd hartverwarmend, scherpzinnig en grappig. Je begint als afkeurende buitenstaander te lezen maar voelt je algauw deel van dit gezin aan de rand van de samenleving. Die ondanks vele foute beslissingen en drankmisbruik, een bijna onbreekbare familie zijn.

I don't have heaps to say about this one. Chose it because it seemed to be a prominent 21st century Belgian novel. To me it was good, not great, too heavy-handed for my taste. The strong misogyny throughout the book bumped my rating down from three stars to two.
