I am not a huge fan of the Tommy and Tuppance books anyway but I'm 30 pages in and its all just a bit meandering and unfocused.
Pages Read 194/310
Agatha, I love you, but I just couldn't do it. I could not force myself to finish this book.
Normally, Agatha Christie books take me a day or two to finish. I've been trying to finish this one for over a week. Every time I pick it up I get maybe 20 pages before I find myself nodding off. It's just that boring. To be fair, this book was her final novel, written at a time when she was suffering from memory related illnesses. It was also apparently dictated by her since she wasn't physically able to write by that point.
Those facts make it easy to understand why the novel is of such poor quality, but they don't do anything to help you get through it! That's the true challenge and the issues all boil down to the pacing. The story moves as if swimming through molasses with most of the tale spent following the leads around as they talk to people, searching for answers about a long ago death. Most of these conversations go nowhere with pages spent chronicling the small talk that dominates these encounters and only a sentence or two dedicated to information that actually forwards the mystery. It's probably a very accurate picture of what a case like this would involve, but it makes for the least interesting mystery I've ever read.
I can't recommend this to anyone other than someone looking for a good bedtime read, but if that's what you want, then go for it! This isn't terribly written, it's just boring, so it's the perfect choice for something to read every night as you're trying to wind down. Who knows, maybe the ending makes it all worth it? This is widely considered Agatha's worst book, though, so I doubt it.

Extremely, exceedingly boring. I liked the characters of Tommy and Tuppence but the plot was unforgivable in its lack of substance.
