I really didn’t like this book. It was a thinly veiled romance novel with some weird themes. It was really into comparing humans and other animals, especially sex. It also had a lot of “divine femininity” vibes that were really atrocious. And a recurring theme of this 30 year old woman wanting romance with her 17 year old nephew. It was bizarre and hard to get through. Big disappointment after how much I liked demon copperhead.

Hot biological 'thriller'! No, not the right word, but yes it is thrilling. And thoughtful and touching and provoking and beautiful. Get me to Appalachia!

I really wanted to like this book- after all, Kingsolver gave me Poisonwood Bible which was incredible! But this novel felt tedious and overdrawn, with female characters that I found to be a bit too ridiculous and dramatic. I could see it appealing to other readers but it just wasn’t for me. I made it 200 pages before I decided to give up and move on.
