I wasn't sure what to expect from Kathy Reich's first foray into teen literature. I was pleasantly surprised. Aside from the fact that Reichs is my favorite author and I am usually a bit biased in my love for anything she writes, I was skeptical about the science fiction aspect of the novel but it was well done and added to the heart-pounding mystery story. Tory Brennan is convincing as a main character and heroine and it is nice to see a female leading around a "pack" of her teenage boy friends. This book is great for fans of her work or for a good light introduction to her style of mystery writing. It is a fast read even though it is 454 pages. I will definitely read Seizure (the sequel) soon. Age-wise this book is good for teens but has enough action and interesting plot to keep adults engaged too. I recommend it! :)

A bit slow to start, but kept me guessing to the end. Will absolutely read book #2 of the series.

A classic YA novel with a 'I'm not like the other girls' main character who gets into trouble and avoids the debutante Southern expectations. But do I like this type of book? Yes! It's very easy to get into and an easy read and I would happily watch it if it was a tv show (think Outer Banks vibes). Looking forward to reading more.

I'm so close to giving it only 1 star, but I won't. I hope it's the translator who made this book so awful to read (especially the first part of it) even though I have no clue how you can translate numbers and square meters wrong. Even if it was originally written in square inches. Besides that Tory could have been a smartass 16/17 year old, but 14? And how can you be dancing queen, super smart, pretty, have friends, sport and do an investigation? How can you be so stupid and forget to check out on iFollow when you are doing illigal stuff? How can you not see that they will remove te bones and keep all evidence you've found when you run away leaving your stuff behind while people are firing a gun at you? I just can't see why everyone loves this. Why? The only reason I finished this book is because a friend said she loved it. The only reason for not giving it only one star is the murder itself and how everything is thought through. But still.

This book was amazing. I love wolves and books about DNA experiments! The Virals were all so intelligent which made me fall in love with them from the beginning. The twists just kept coming! Wonderful book.

Such a fun and raucous ride with you meddling kids! It's a mash up of Scooby Doo, Power Rangers/Fantastic Four, and Bones. I'm totally looking forward to the next in the series.

REview from Much Loved Books REview- Virals

When I read the description on the back of Virals I had to read it, I sent a quick request off and was so happy to have it accepted and have Virals in my hands.
I love watching Bones so I knew Virals would have some link to the books that Bones is based on. Add in the whole powers thing and it made the book that much more perfect.

This is the first book I have read by Kathy Reichs and I was not disappointed. From the minute we start the book we are introduced to the small island of Morris Island and the inhabitants of the tiny island. We learn about the small group of friends Tory, Shelton, Hi and Ben, and how they know each other and what their parents do, which all help in the story, as well as the popular students in the school they attend.

I love how Temperance Brennan is slipped into the story and her archaeology appropriate gifts are given to Tory for presents and how Tory is brainy but doesn't act like a nerd or geek and uses the presents to help investigate.

The friendship established between The Virals is a bond that isn't easily broken, and although they vote on things to do, in the end they all agree to do it, even if they don't really want to. There is just the right amount of scientific information in Virals to keep it interesting but not to hard to understand or take on board and is easily added into the story line.

I have been taking this book to work to read and I have been so engrossed with it that I missed an entire conversation that was about me, I seriously could not put this book down.

If you like watching Bones on TV, or even if you have read other books by Kathy Reichs, you need to buy this book.
Now all I have to do is wait for the UK release of Seizure the second book in the series.
