Honestly I did not like the blatant racism at some parts. The book felt very human and real. I feel bad for the things that happened to him, and the people around him.

Augusten Burroughs handles dark topics with humor and wit, and I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who liked Running with Scissors.

A fantastic look into Augusten Burrough's mind in all it's addictive, self-destructive, and deeply human tendancies.

I found myself being unable to put the book down - needing to know what happens to each character whilst being deeply affected by the emotional journeys being told.

The relationships in the book are rich, if at times frustrating. Being taken by the development of Augusten himself is highly rewarding.

“I'm lonely. And I'm lonely in some horribly deep way and for a flash of an instant, I can see just how lonely, and how deep this feeling runs. And it scares the shit out of me to be this lonely because it seems catastrophic.”

Wow, I loved this book. Intense, and beautifully written. I was completely caught up in Augusten’s character arc (can we call it that in a memoir?). His internal dialogue throughout this story is profound - and at some points hidden behind humor. I both laughed and cried - Would absolutely recommend.
