This was a quick read, which held my attention, and was enjoyable, although a bit predictable. I enjoyed the family dynamics which played out with the siblings, but did not understand our like the mother. My bookclub had some good discussions on forgiveness and also letting go of whatever doesn't serve you anymore.

The main plot wasn’t my favorite. Her guilt and her siblings original anger seem misplaced and forced, but the subplots were full of easy read and enjoyable moments and I read it quickly. Overall good not a favorite though. 3.5 ⭐️

In terms of themes, this book had them all! Family, forgiveness (both for others and self), self-discovery, and even ornithology

Quick poolside read….I felt invested in Natalie and her family’s story.

This book had the potential to be better.

The premise of the story is a family that has been destroyed by the loss of a father, the mental health of the mother, and the little sister's actions that lands her siblings in prison.

This premise was very promising, but it fell apart for me when we found out why the siblings went to prison. Although Natalie called the cops because she was upset and spiteful, it was definitely warranted. It was amazing to me that everyone blamed her but not her siblings for their part in the scenario that led to the death of their friend. Interesting.

I really liked the side characters in this story, mainly the two best friends and the contrasts between Natalie's life on the east coast with Teensy and the healthier connections she's able to build with Michelle and the brunch crew on the west coast. I also like what we learned about the kind of person Buck was through what Natalie remembered about him in her childhood. He deserved better, but they were kids...
