Great video on Scholastics website to make this book interactive.

A new title by the musical writer Eric Litwin. Instead of nuts or cats, he's shared a story about a singing dog and dinosaurs. A fun read for anyone who enjoys dogs, dinosaurs, ice cream, or music.

My daughter really loves books that have music to go along with the story, and this book was no exception.
While the lyrics weren’t spectacular, they were simple enough for my toddler to sing along to, and enjoy.
Dogs and dinosaurs are an odd combo, but definitely enjoyable.

I know it is a sing along book, but I thought the lyrics were boring.

oh god, this is horrible. I could see how a kid might like it, but from an adult perspective it sucks!

Will Groovy Joe be the next Pete the Cat? Possibly. "Love my doggy ice cream" is just about as catchy as "I love my white shoes." My daughter and nephew (both toddlers) wanted to read it over and over again. Dinosaurs, ice cream, sharing, a guitar - these are all things I can get behind. I haven't tried it yet at story time, but I think it will be fun.

For: Pete the Cat fans; readers looking for a bright book with mild suspense and lots of rhythm.
Possible red flags: grumpiness.

Such a cute sharing book! Joe has a tub of ice cream and is enjoying it alone when three dinosaurs break down his door and want to share! I loved the repetitive vocabulary and the different words used to describe the dinosaurs, this would be a fun book to use for choral reading!
