A solid conclusion that got darker than I expected. The finale was satisfying, although I wish we’d gotten to spend more time in the Otherworld overall.

I dunno... it left room for the possibility of revisiting these places, these characters,  but all three volumes were completed in 2019 so it doesn't feel like an ongoing series.
If I'm to take the three volumes as a finished arc, it seem like a rushed, not totally satisfying, ending.
Also, as much as there were some monster-y bits in the previous couple of volumes, there was a pretty gruesome moment in this one I wasn't expecting. To each their own yuck level, but I'm not sure I'd recommend this to younger teens.
I'll have to poke around John Allison's other work, see if these uniquely weird vibes show up again.

WHAT WAS EVEN THE POINT OF THIS SERIES?

The pacing was just super off in the whole series... Too many characters as well -- wished there had been less people but we got to spend more time with them. This book especially felt rushed as it tried to tie together a lot of loose ends, and the epilogue felt a little out of place.

This, overall, was just not my bag of chips.

If you want to read something amazing by John Allison, pick up Giant Days which is amazing and hilarious. I wouldn’t suggest By Night to anyone.

Shucks. This was ultimately disappointing. It felt like a definitive ending, but it was a rushed ending with loose ends and unsatisfying conclusions to several character arcs. Not feeling saying anything else.
