This is a hard but powerful read. Levy writes with such candor here about her life and her struggles. And sometimes that makes for some very difficult reading. If you’ve ever miscarried or had a still born baby, you’ll probably have a tough time with certain sections of this book. I appreciated Levy’s willingness to share certain parts of her story that weren’t so glamorous or easy. It was refreshing.
This is worth a read and I’m glad I took the time to give it a chance. The good reviews are well deserved.

Was not what I anticipated. From the book jacket, I thought the story would be much more about the incident that changed her life and after. That was actually a much smaller part of the story. It was ok. The writing was fine. Overall, my reaction was, 'meh.'
Fantastic, lyrical, heartbreaking for the 1st 75% of the book. Then the editor and/or the author appear to have entered a fugue state for the last 25%, which is no-where near the caliber of the beginning of the memoir. Still a must-read.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of this riveting memoir. I was captured by the story, unable to put the book down. The author sweeps you up into a story of having it all and then lays you bare when it all falls apart. The story is so unique, yet so relatable.
A very hard read. I'm glad I did not read this any time before now.
This book is superb. I'm glad I took some time out to read Ariel's story.
I agree with another GR reviewer: “I believe she effectively put herself out there to be easily and viciously judged” — I cannot believe how brutally honest Levy is in this book. The writing is beautiful & painful, however I honestly think she could have just let her essay live on its own and not provide the backstory of this memoir.
