hm i’m about two chapters in and i didn’t do any research on this book, but it was already giving me weird vibes. i started reading because it was in the book recs and said it got great reviews. hm if you’re Black, trans, or anyone other than a privileged yt woman, i’d sit this one out. lmao from the African dialect depicted, i immediately knew this book was written by a yt woman, so i had to google it, which lead me here.
i have returned it.

Pretty tone deaf on her privilege and wealth.
But some tangents are pretty interesting!

I love the idea of breaking the rules of life as this memoir does. The end I didn’t really like but the overall moral was good.
I'd never heard of Ariel Levy before reading this, but love her writing style. I enjoyed the parts of the book that focused on her career than the personal stuff, but it was all still interesting.
This book felt alive, like you were in the mind of the author. The writing is beautiful. I am sad that it's over and I want to know what happens next...
Make a face like someone's just punched you in the stomach, but not super-hard, and you get an idea of how this book will make you feel. Picked this up as a light read when I couldn't sleep - this book is not for then! She talks about her life, which someone at one point puts like this: "Are you the Ariel for which everything's gone wrong"? But, well-written and interesting regardless.

I listened to this one. She is an interesting writer, her story is a tragic one but I think she tried to use shock value to make her story stand out.
