Bobby Garfield in Connecticut. Father deceased. His best friends are Sully-John and Carol.

Carol at college in Maine

Blind Willie in Vietnam and begging.

Sully-John brings Bobby and Carol together.

Outstanding! I love how the stories all interconnected as they did and the ending was perfect.
emotional tense slow-paced

I didn't realize until part way through the second story that this was a collection of vaguely connected stories. I really enjoyed Bobby's story and was glad to come back to it in the end. But the abrupt change to story two halfway through the book just didn't work. I didn't get in to the non-Bobby sections because they just weren't what I wanted to read. This book is horribly structured.

Este es un libro de relatos pero todos están conectados y aunque algunos tienen partes que quizá te distraen del relato en sí; hay otros que simplemente me encantaron.

Pretty moving at times, far from his best though. I found it kinda muddled.

Classic Stephen King. Nostalgia for the '60s. Dark Tower connections.

Surprisingly good collection of novellas and short stories. I knew they were Dark Tower related going in, but I didn't realize until most of the way through that they were also all thematically tied together to the 60's, Vietnam, and the loss of innocence of an entire generation. Recommend reading them all together.

This book is not Stephen King's best book, if you like the plot and thrill.

There are several 'short' stories in here, which are somewhat connected. The firs, Low Men in Yellow Coats, takes up the first half of this book, and is by far the most entertaining.

I would reccommend reading this book for 2 reasons:
1. You have read/are going to read the Dark Tower series, and this book gives some extra background on it (my reason for reading)
2. You want to know more about the times Stephen King grew up in (which mostly deals with the 2nd half of the book), and how his generation was affected.

It's still King, so it's still good, just not his best.
