Not my favorite Stephen King but not the worst I've read either.

Hearts in Atlantis was written after (or during the recovery of) Stephen King's accident where he was hit by a van. It contains 5 novellas that are connected by certain characters in each story.

I had high hope for this book but it just didn't deliver. I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. I will say, no one can write childhood like King...except maybe Bradbury.

While wordy and questionably structured, this was surprisingly satisfying. Not for the nostalgia-phobes. I’m curious to finally dive into the Dark Tower series to see what some of this book means.

Outstanding story telling. There is something about this story that drew me in. I can say that of all the characters I have read in my life, there is something very special about Bobby-O, Carol, and Sully John. King made them more real to me than any author has ever been able to do. I actually cried when Carol got beat up.

Maybe I'm a stupid romantic, but Pete and Skip and everyone playing cards while low-key wanting to destroy their futures, hits hard.

It’s fairly obvious why this is one of King’s less well known/ignored works and also why it’s taken me this long to read it. It is a strange mismatch of tales, none of which are very compelling. I’d only suggest reading to King completists.

Wow. What a way to start 2023. This collection of “short” (I mean, it’s Stephen King!) and interconnected stories is incredible. I loved this travel through the 1960s and all of the characters. Bobby is my favorite although I am rather fond of Pete as well. I highly recommend this book!

I was left feeling like there was no ending which can really make or break a book and/or movie. It's been awhile since I read this but from what I remember it had 3 different parts. The first was interesting enough but then it ended. While reading part 2 I kept wondering what happened with part 1...then part 3 started! I thought FOR SURE I get to find out what happened and have some kind of closure. Nope. The book ended and I was left feeling confused and pissed off. I think I'll stick with Stephen King's horror books instead.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book. But about half way in, the book completely strayed from itself and became all about the Vietnam war. I can’t relate but it felt like a ton of political garbage that didn’t have anything to do with the first half of the book. At this point I completely lost interest. Near the end we get a tiny bit more about the character from the first half of the book but it was completely unsatisfying. Disappointed.
