This is quite hard to review, so I'll keep it brief.

A mixed bag in terms of quality for me. Low Men in Yellow Coats being the stand out story in the collection by a long way! Not just because of the Dark Tower references, but because of how attached you become to the trio of Ted, Bobby and Carol.

The title story was pretty good, but it felt that it could have been trimmed down quite a bit. It was a struggle to get through at times. But it was nice to revisit Carol when she was a little older.

Blind Willie may have been the weakest in the collection for me. Although, I'm glad it was quite a short read and it was well paced. Just not the most exciting story I've read.

Why We're in Vietnam was okay. Quite slow paced but I enjoyed the ending. I had an extremely clear picture of the old mamasn and empathised with Sully-John.

Heavenly Shades of Night are Falling was a brilliant way to end the collection. Going back to Bobby 40 years later was very nice.

Overall, a 3 star read. A good book, but not the best collection I've read by quite a lot. I'm glad I've read it though and it was very enjoyable in places. I do recommend this if you are going to read the Dark Tower series!

Probably woulda rated this higher....It started reall interesting but at a point seemed to go on and on and on....
I LOVE reading Stephen King but this book just didn't cut it for me

This book is great if you stop after the childhood portion. The solid last half adds nothing.

So, I'm only giving this 3 stars but I think the problem is my mindset & intentions coming into this book. I picked this up purely as supplemental reading to The Dark Tower, and as such, I really only enjoyed the first section: Low Men in Yellow Coats (which I loved and am glad I read).

I probably should have stopped there and come back to finish the rest of this book when I wasn't so engrossed in the Dark Tower (and impatient to return to it for book 7).

That being said, I still appreciated a lot of moments in this book. It's definitely an impressive showcase of King's abilities outside of the horror genre.

I'm not necessarily a fan of the "multiple short stories with small connections between them" format, so that's on me, though I do appreciate the skill it takes to weave themes and characters into separate narratives.

I think if I were to revisit this book again in the future with a more patient approach, I'd enjoy and appreciate it a lot more.
