Was prompted to read this because I finished the first two books in the Mercedes trilogy. This after I swore off King forever. But it was an old one and had much to recommend it. I could live without Low Men but I loved Ted Brautigan.
This book has it all. I remember being blown away when I read it for the first time because it was unlike any other King novel I had read. One of his best.

It was pretty good! I love reading about the social culture in the 1960s, especially the Vietnam War. It definitely delivered on its promise, I guess I was just hoping for more reflection at the end. It was also very long, and dragged in some places.
Should be required reading for anyone who lived through (or who is interested in) the 60s.

Not the best of books, but an interesting style none the less. This books contains multiple stories, somehow tied together, during the lifetime of a couple of kids from the same neigborhood, and others they meet along their lives. It's heavily Vietnam-oriented, which I didn't really expect. Can't say I recommend this, but there were some interesting characters.
