Anthologies are kind of hard to rate but overall I enjoyed most of the stories. My top three would be Night-Tide (inspired by Annabel Lee) by Tessa Gratton, A Drop of Stolen Ink (inspired by The Purloined Letter) by Emily Lloyd-Jones, and Red (inspired by The Masque of the Red Death) by Hillary Monahan

I think that since the goal was to write modern retellings, a lot of the authors went into sci-fi territory. I personally despise sci-fi so obviously I was not a fan of that, but on a less personal level, I don't think sci-fi really makes sense with the romantic-style of Poe's writing. Some of them were pretty ok/good but many were less than ideal. I love the concept for this book, but like almost all collections of works by modern authors centering the theme of reimagining old stories, it was disappointing.

This was pretty good! I started it last year, then DNFed with two stories left for some reason, so I decided to finish them off on Halloween night. My favorites were the retelling of The Pit and the Pendulum and the last story about the Murders at the Rue Morgue.

Quick-mostly because I just read the short stories and not the Poe originals (because as a Poe fam I already have lol). Short stories are hard. Most are just eh to me because they have to introduce so much in so little time. That how I felt about these ones, good but nothing that knocked my socks off

Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favorites! And I also love re-tellings, so when I saw this book on the shelf I had to read it! I loved all the stories. They were fun and innovative but kept the original dark feel of Poe’s stories.
