I hadn't read a Discworld book in years, and I'm so happy I dived back in with this one. Terry Pratchett's writing is always engaging, delightful, and often revealing.

The Good:
- Top tier dialogue and humorous commentary
- quirky characters and worldbuilding

The Bad:
- The ending felt a little bit too much like slapping a bow on a present

disclaimer: this review contain mild spoilers to set the tone, nothing game changing, just to remind you what you are signing up for, a review of the book Mort by Terry Pratchett

“WHAT IS THAT SENSE INSIDE YOUR HEAD OF WISTFUL REGRET THAT THINGS ARE THE WAY THEY APPARENTLY ARE? “Sadness, master. I think. Now—” I AM SADNESS.” —Terry Pratchett

Summary Review

Mort is the first book to Terry Pratchett's Death series, and it focuses on the embodiment and meaning of Death in the DISCWORLD Universe.

It is also one of the beginner entries to the universe itself that Terry Pratchett behold so greatly in his career. The premise of Terry Pratchett's writing is the nature of comedy, with immense satire in fact. Nothing is taken seriously, yet sometimes it gets you pondering the meaning of it and life itself.

Strengths

The Humour genre Terry Pratchett writes is one of the best IN Fantasy to ever co-exist so seamlessly, the jokes and satire ever felt so delightful and unnerving at the same time the way Terry Pratchett blends it in as if he made a script full of jokes slammed it into the blender machine, and there comes out a beautiful mix of tasty but nerve-wrecking look of satire itself at best.
It's like that one food where it smells bad, but when your taste bud kicks in and understands the complexities of the simple ingredients used, it TASTES EXCEPTIONALLY DELICIOUS! (come on im sure this analogy works in some point of your life lol)

I found myself laughing for the first half of the book, its just that its filled with humour that never feels unoriginal to me.

Weaknessess

The pacing might be a little off to fantasy readers as it is limited to 300 pages and Terry Pratchett’s typical writing style consist of a light fantasy depiction throughout a volume. I found myself to be cackling for the first half of the book, and thoroughly invested in the other half for plot only. It climaxed pretty steep in the second half which may seem off-putting to a majority of audiences, but it is definitely worth the read, you see nothing to lose but gain!

World Building 6.5/10

To remind you that i'm speaking for this book alone, it isn't the best in this department. Reason being a first novel is always naturally inclined to introduce the characters and the series's objective and sets the theme. Additionally, it is a short and light read.

But it is not at all inherently bad, theres humour in how Terry builds his world and universe, and one can simply enjoy a tease occasionally without fail to burst into laughter.

Characters and Supporting Roles - 8.5/10

The characters are to die for (literally), ranging from a monotonous yet deep entity to a shallow yet crazy and wacky cast, its filled with variety that may surprise you at any page turned. I found myself enjoying every moment with any kind of character in this book, wonderfully crafted to amuse by Terry Pratchett.

Plot - 9/10
I felt like they did justice to the plot in exchange for the lack of world elements build in this particular volume. The amount of unravelling at every page did not even give me a chance to stop and take a sip of water to hydrate myself. An ultimate light read page turner is what it is.

Recommended Audiences

I would highly recommend this for readers going through an epic fantasy read like Malazan or Way of Kings and need a brush to stop time for a moment in the world of books, sometimes Epic Fantasy can ruin our taste buds while bracing it through the toughest times and we would need cleansing water in that sense... and that is where Terry Pratchett’s writing style come in, the ultimate medicine!

DO NOT Recommended to

People who care a lot about how and how and how of every little detail of a book, that concept is highly reserved for Epic/High fantasy books, this is about lightening your mood and act as a palette cleanser. This is a book to breeze through and enjoy the sun setting and laugh till your hearts content, it isn’t much like your Red Rising or Dune book series.

I hope i made a great impact on your decision making or chimed in your thoughts about this book after reading it, thank you for your time! Happy Reading!
