I didn't particularly care for this book, and only finished it because I try not to not finish books once I've started. Reading it felt at times like I was reading Stolen Innocence only with worse writing. The dialogue drove me absolutely crazy, as did the use of all caps in the notes one of the characters wrote. It could have been a very interesting book, if the writing had been better and if the story hadn't been resolved in the final 30 pages. I'm just glad I have a stack of books I'm planning to donate at home, as this one will be joining them.

Hidden Wives is a real page-turner. I was emotionally invested in the characters and wanted to know how everything worked out for them. Sara was stubborn to her core and has such a deep desire to learn. And poor Rachel is so very naive but so very loyal, even to her own detriment. My one complaint with the book is that it's almost too negative and biased; Sara, Rachel and Luke seem to be the only redeemable people in the entire community, while the other members commit evil act after evil act. However, Avery redeems herself with a talent for imagery. Her descriptions were vivid and realistic. This is not a book to be missed.

Eberhoff's The 19th Wife is MUCH better on both the historical and contemporary fronts. This was way too predicatable.

So, I just finished Hidden Wives by Claire Avery. (This book, by the way, I won from the Goodreads giveaway.) I know I've gotta write a review, but I just don't know what to say about this book. Well, first off, it's just about the only book I've won from Goodreads that I read the whole way through. Hidden Wives is also probably the best book I've won from Goodreads, hence why I read it all the way through. :P

Anyway, what's the book about? Easy, polygamists. That's all you need to know. It's about Rachel Shaw and Sara Marx, half-sisters, who were raised in the Blood of the Lamb polygamist community, and basically how they overcome their hardships and whatnot.

Now, in the beginnig Hidden Wives really seemed like it was gonna be boring, but turned out not to be. It had a real good ending, and I did like the book, but the thing is, Hidden Wives just didn't really elicit much emotion outta me, which is why this is a piss-poor book review.

But what can I say? Read the book, more than likely you'll like it! Haha.
