Just amazing. It had all the feels, and is a book that will stick with me. Hannah has become one of my favorite authors. She is so amazing at depicting history accurately and making you just FEEL all the emotions. I'm so glad my friend recommended her to me.

Simplistic writing, flat, one-note characters, predictable plot points, set in France about the French people but glaringly American perspectives and writing, anachronistic/unresearched for HF, but not enough romance to be romance, so just not enough of anything. 2 stars because the audiobook was an ok in-ear backdrop to traveling, walking around etc. I’d put it in the jack reacher, girl with the hornets nest, da Vinci code category of books that read like movies. Not really enough there to call it good, but entertaining enough if you don’t think about it too hard, and not so bad that it’s offensive.

I love this author but this is not my favorite of her books. While the subject was serious and should have been moving, I was not moved by this book and didn’t feel connected to each other. The family issues and plot felt predictable and almost silly. However, it was still enjoyable to read and I was highly invested in it while reading mainly because the way she writes is so beautiful.
OH MY GOSH MY HEART. This book emotionally dissssttuuurrbbeed me Kristin. Have never cried this hard but god damn. Such an amazing read.

DAMN. Wat een boek.
Ik heb echt even moeten nadenken over mijn review, want dit boek is compleet anders dan alle andere boeken die ik lees. Normaal gesproken is een 5 sterren boek voor mij een boek waar ik niet mee kan stoppen met lezen, waar ik warm van word en waarvan ik blij word. En dat is niet iets wat ik over The Nightingale kan zeggen.
Maar het is wel een 5 ster.
Want WAUW: wat een indrukwekkend boek. Van begin af aan (ondanks het slow paced verhaal) zat ik erin. Elke keer als ik het boek oppakte werd ik geraakt, en voelde mee met alle karakters. Het is een zwaar verhaal, met een zwaar onderwerp (maar dat verwacht je ook bij een boek over de tweede wereldoorlog), waardoor ik er niet snel doorheen ben gegaan. Dit is ook geen boek waarvan ik dat zou willen.
Maar wauw. Wat een verhaal. Dit blijft me zeker weten bij. Nu al benieuwd naar de andere boeken van Kristin Hannah.
