The story grabbed me from page 1 and suddenly it was 3am and I finished the book. It’s a very intense read about learning to love yourself again, and I love how Grady and Dylan help each other with that. They both struggle with their body image, and that’s affecting their lives in negative ways. I’m never a big fan of stories where communication isn’t really happening, but in this case it made total sense to me with everything they were dealing with.
The survivor’s guilt that Grady was dealing with made my heart ache for him, I can’t even imagine how the burden can cripple someone’s ability to continue their life. It was a beautiful book about loss, grief, acceptance, and finding love when you least expect it.
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥

Graphic: Panic attacks/disorders, Grief
Moderate: Body shaming, Death, Fatphobia, Infidelity
Neither of the main characters was possessive or really jealous of the other being with OW/OM which for me subtracted a lot from the cute factor of their relationship.
Also, I just didn’t feel that the Hero was that into the heroine… like ya, he thought she was sexy and wanted to sleep with her… but the emotional connection wasn’t there. It really felt like what he said: he was just using her to take his nightmares away and slept with her because it was convenient.
Even when he would talk about Dylan with his family, he didn’t seem like he was in love with her… it felt like in the end both of them could have walked away from each other and still have been happy with their life.

• No cheating
• No descriptive sex scene with OW/OM… but
• Does have the Hero and Heroine pushing away
• Does have a brief separation between the Hero and Heroine
• See Ending for HEA status.
• See Possible Triggers for Abuse and OTT sad parts.
Possible Triggers:
• Severe PTSD
• Body-image insecurities

• No cheating
• No descriptive sex scene with OW/OM… but
– The 1st time the heroine met the Hero (they’re roommates) the hero brought an OW home and had sex with her. The heroine heard them.
– Heroine saw the hero and OW kissing. After noticing the heroine’s attention, the hero ‘joked’ about other places on his body he had OW’s lipstick. The heroine got slightly aroused.
– The hero asked the heroine if she wanted to join him and the OW.
– The heroine also gets with an OM–at the hero’s encouragement.
– The hero jacks off to the heroine and OM getting together–they share a bedroom wall and the hero can hear them.
– When the hero and heroine are a couple they are completely faithful

Well if sexy firefighters are your bag, then this little beauty is just the thing for you!
Combust is about the 2nd Malone brother Grady, we saw the first Grant (The Cop) in [bc:Cuffed|31314066|Cuffed (Everyday Heroes, #1)|K. Bromberg|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1502979299s/31314066.jpg|51987291]
Even though this is book #2 in the series, they can all be read as Standalones.
Dylan McCoy is a songwriter, she has done very well for herself and made quite a name for herself in the music business, she even now writes songs for a famous rockstar, who she was involved with for a couple of years........that was until she found him in bed with someone else!
Nursing a broken heart she decides to get away from life for a while, this is going to be difficult, because she is still under contract and still has to work with the rockstar and pretend everything is "Hunky Dory" with their love life (because of said contract)
After speaking to her brother he convinces her to go and stay at his best friends house for a while, so she packs her things and sets out for Sunnyville.
Grady is a firefighter, he is a kind, sweet man who has his own problems to deal with, but being the nice guy that he is, lets his best friends sister room at his house for a while.
When Dylan and Grady meet, well they immediatly hit it off and become friends, but there is an underlying attraction between them.
When that atraction is unleeshed, well lets just say that it is good that Grady is a Firefighter, cause it is SMOKING 🔥🔥
Dylan is very insecure about herself, her rockstar boyfriend Jett cheated on her with a gorgeous stick thin model, and Grady, well Grady has his own scars, some you can clearly see.
I loved this story, the characters were wonderful people that had been dealt shitty blows.
There were a couple of lump in the throat moments, and also a time where my heart was in my mouth!
🎧🎧Excellently narrated by the perfect dreamteam duo Andi Arndt #SexyVoiceQueen and Sebastian York #SebYes this is one that you should add to your TBR.
I have been waiting for this book for a while after finishing Cuffed. I could not wait to meet Grady. K. Bromberg knows how to press the damn buttons. I could not be happier.
“Just when you need someone to be nowhere, they’re everywhere.”
Grady was not okay. He suffered and struggled. It always felt like he was in constant pain. I sympathized with him. I wanted to heal him and make him feel alright. Dylan had the key to all his problems but he kept on pushing and pushing. His development was really slow and I almost lost hope. But he bounced right back in. I wanted him to wear his scars proudly because he did it.
“Because love is rarely pretty. It’s messy. It’s complicated. It’s often ugly, but that’s how you know when it’s right. Pretty doesn’t always last. It’s the things you have to work at that make the reward that much sweeter.”
Dylan had a lot of issues that were mostly inside her head. I wanted her to see her true self. She deserved the world and nothing in between. She was not perfect but she was beautiful. I loved her and I enjoyed her character. I liked how she pushed Grady’s buttons when needed and allowed him to push hers in return.
“Fear has two meanings, son. Forget everything and run. Or face everything and rise.”
This series of standalones does not only deal with couples but also their families and issues. I love that it talks about everything but does not seem messy.
“So, I’m kissing you because when I’m with you, my mind stops, and the world starts turning again.”
Dylan and Grady denied each other a lot. They pushed and pulled every chance they got. Until they reached the combust. The big one that made it all right.
