I listened to the audiobook version. Viola has such a compelling life story. Her childhood broke my heart and I am so happy she was able to find success in her personal life and career. She is really beautiful, strong and is absolutely a survivor. She has some tough stories to tell but her memoir is absolutely worth reading/listening to.

I picked this book simply because she’s from Rhode Island and I loved HTGAWM… I am speechless. I feel like I know Viola Davis like she’s a friend or family member. I never knew how much she went through in her life and it’s so inspiring. She grew up in Rhode Island and truly made something out of herself. I wish I could have everyone in Rhode Island read this.
Whether you relate to her struggles or not- you really see how much hard work goes into digging yourself out of poverty and the constant fear of falling back into that hole. I think this book could help those that relate to her story have hope and those that live outside poverty have an understanding of how they live.
