Coming into Finding Me, I'd been introduced to Viola Davis via her portrayal of Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder. Aside from that, I knew little about her other roles or about the woman behind them. So, I had a vaguely positive impression of Davis but that was about it.

I was absolutely blown away by her memoir. I have so much respect and admiration for her and how she's lived and transformed her life. I cried many times with both sadness and happiness.

Would honestly recommend this to everyone, especially the audiobook version. There's something very powerful in hearing any autobiographer tell their own story, but this narration is in itself a masterwork performance. It's very deserving of the Emmy she received for it.

Must do the audiobook.  Very good.

This book is absolute brilliance, but I highly recommend the audio version. Hearing Viola‘s voice, her story, her passion, her truth, it’s unlike any audio read you’ll ever consume. Thank you Viola!!!

This is now one of my favorite memoirs. How Viola Davis portrays herself, I honestly would’ve never guessed her upbringing. Her narrating was phenomenal, her story was insane, and she’s just overall so cool. I loved the parallels between  her feelings as an adult to her younger self. The way she saw younger her as so tough and strong, but then at the very end she said
she was now holding her tight
like stop everything was just perfect.
Also, the way she talks about acting felt like looking through the lens of a true artist. The way she truly tries to understand her characters and always tries to add something to make them feel real and human is just so fascinating. She really is one of the greats.
