I love Star Wars. Most geeks do. But I don't like the Jedi, or the Sith, or the Force. I don't mind them, really, but they aren't why I engage with that universe.

I engage with Star Wars for two aspects: the soldiers and the outlaws.

Galaxy's Edge is unashamedly a spiritual copy of Star Wars, perfecting the source materials mistakes and becoming special in its own right. Where it drastically improves upon Star Wars, to me at least, is its focus on my favourite aspects of the old classic.

Galactic Outlaws focuses on two characters. Both are combat veterans and both are now outlaws, partaking in bounty hunting and smuggling. Already, the book has covered the bases that I love the most from Star Wars - and improve it.

Star Wars writers have always been shoddy at writing military fiction, with the exception of the Clone Wars animated series. They have also always given their outlaws quite a bad time. Either, they reform and become do-gooders immediately, or they die quickly.

In Galactic Outlaws, combat is visceral, tactical and as realistic as a sci-fi should be. The characters are well-written, depicting their role in the story excellently.

I don't like giving spoilers in my reviews, so I'm just going end off and say: get this book.

The way star wars should be told.

Extremely entertaining and a quick read. Although there are very few new story lines out there how the story is told and how the characters interact us what makes this series great.

Not As good as the first....but that's alright

Book two definitely strays from the first, to the point of confusion. First book, rooting for Leejes, second book... Not so much. I still really enjoyed it, but honestly, except for a

This book is amazing. I love this book. This book is battling it out for my top spot on my top ten list and might just beat out Dark Intelligence (my most recent favorite book of all time)

Now for the actual review starting with dislikes. The thing that kinda turned me off to this book, in the beginning, was the massive 7 year time jump because the first book ended pretty good but there was so much that could have happened in those intervening 7 years that we as readers don't know about. My other gripe is that we start out with a cold open that doesn't in any way harken back to the first book and it gives you no context.

This book is very underwhelming compared to the previous one.

I had a hard time caring about any of the characters and I got through it just to see if the ending was good.

The ending was fine. I was excited to read through this series and now I’m not sure if it’s going to be worth the time.

I've decided I love this series.

Galactic Outlaws is the second Galaxy's Edge book, and it's surprising to me how different it is from the first. Legionnaire was a war story on a desert world, with about a postage stamp's worth of worldbuilding... until you get to the epilogue, which felt like a short story in which the writers tell you that you haven't seen anything yet. In this book, which takes place several years later, the worldbuilding gets blown wide open and we finally see the beginnings of a real epic conflict.

There are two main characters in here: Keel, an obvious Han Solo archetype but with more competence and fewer scruples; and Tyrus Rechs, who acts as a sort of cross between Boba Fett and Captain Rex from Clone Wars. Rechs is a fantastic character, one of my favorites in all of science fiction, a grizzled old supersoldier turned bounty hunter who's barely holding onto his sanity after getting into far too many fights and major galactic events. There's also several supporting characters, each of which is fun in their own way.

And that's the best word I know for this book: fun. The characters are entertaining, the action is relentless, and the pacing is fast. Yet the authors put just enough weighty themes in there (particularly the dangers of seeking revenge) to avoid letting the story feel vapid.

I'm excited to read the next one! With how fast the authors pump these books out I'm not sure if I'll ever catch up, and right now I'm totally okay with that.
