Now this book I'm sorry I didn't read sooner. If you read my review of the first book in this series, you'll know that I ended up getting an ARC of the third book in this series and decided I should probably review the other two first.

That lands me here with a book that made me laugh out loud several times. Between Gwyn and Wells' antics and then Sir Purrcival and the Baby Witches, there were a lot of laughs to be had. The larger cast of characters was handled well, and I liked the deeper dive into the Penhallow family's history and dynamics. It balanced all of the aspects of fantasy, mystery, and romance well without seeming to focus on one too strongly. Wells and Gwyn may be my favorite couple from this series with their relationship progression feeling natural.

I am very glad I ended up reading this series. This is a very fall-coded book that also reads well during the rest of the year. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a cozy romantasy with a dash of mystery.

Just under a year ago I read the first book based in Graves Glen by Erin Sterling, The Ex Hex. And today I returned to visit with Viv’s fun cousin Gwynn, a playful and fun witch who loves running her store and designing beautiful tarot card sets, and Rhys’s less fun, more stick-in-the-mud brother Wells.

This book was an enjoyable ride with a bit of blood sacrifice thrown in just to be safe. The perfect Halloween read (so I was a little bit early).

I really liked the fact that the past Wells and Gwynn shared was in no way romantic, but the attraction was clear from the moment they re-met.

The fact that not only is Wells’ father against them from the start but an old-school alum is also out to get Gwynn adds to the excitement and definitely piles on more drama.

The story was well-written, the characters had a little more to them (I felt) than Viv and Rhys, probably because they didn’t have the same history. And seeing Wells loosen up and become more relaxed as the story continued helped him to appear more human (with a witchy side of course).

A great romance that had some drama and darkness (albeit not too dark, I will stress). This will go on the Halloween re-read shelf for next year and I would recommend if witchy romances with familial conflict and opposites attract storylines are your thing, that you pick it up too.

Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I feel like my ability to tolerate audiobooks comes in waves and I can't tell if I'm just burned out on audiobooks or if this book really had no plot. I do love the Graves Glenn universe, but nothing happened in this book.
