I loved the first book in this series but this one was VERY similar. Also wanted to see a bit more of the dark magic climax at the end. Could have been a lot better but still some autumn spooky vibes.

New author for me. I loved the story and the characters. Any story with witches in it is a plus in my book.

I noticed the author graduated from Auburn. War Eagle.

I loved almost everything about this book, I loved the baby witches, I loved that there were characters that used they/them pronouns, lgbt characters, our main character never explicitly says her sexuality, but has dated at least men and women so some form of queer. I loved the several main background characters. I loved how headstrong Gwyn was, I loved how love-sick Wells was, I loved sir Purrcival probably most of all, I loved that he kept his ability to speak.

This was what I needed to help my little reading slump. It was simple, sweet, and fun. I didn’t love the use of “first annual” instead of “inaugural” at one point, and I would’ve loved more backstory or development for an old college friend who resurfaces. The baby witches were perfect, and so was Sir Purrcival.

Wells is ready to try something new and leave his pub behind to open a store in the small Georgia town his family founded and his brother currently lives with his wife. Of course, he opens his store right across the street from a similar store owned by Gwyn — the eclectic cousin from the first book in the series, The Ex Hex. And the enemies to lovers trope begins.

I think my favorite part was that literally everyone thought Gwyn’s shop was cringe
