An absolutely terrific sequel!

I was disappointed to I see so many biphobic reviews, and I think people are missing the point. While I, too, was initially disappointed to see this book wasn’t f/f, that doesn’t make Gwyn any less bi. The bi spectrum encompasses all sorts of attraction, and it seemed like her relationship with Jane in the first book wasn’t what she wanted out of a long-term relationship. Actually, I think Gwyn’s attraction to Wells definintely shows she has a type— a little straightlaced and very focused seems to be a common denominator between the two.

Wells initially comes off as stern and emotionless, but the chemistry between the two of them ignites from the very start. I love a good sunshine/grump dynamic, and watching both of them learn to work together was very fun. They were also surprisingly good communicators, but seeing Wells fall head-over-heels was the most satisfying part of the book.

Since both Wells and Gwyn are prolific magic users, we also get to see a lot more magic in this book! Besides teaching us more about how magic is regularly used, Gwyn’s baby witches are very experimental, and watching their efforts was great fun. They added to the queerness of the book, and I just adored their loyalty and general air of chaos. I hope to see more of them in future books, as they were an absolute delight!

A fun and magical romp with a very satisfying romance, perfect for the fall season! Just remember, just because a bi person is in a straight-passing relationship does not make them any less bi. You do not need to date anyone to prove your queerness, friends!

This book was provided to me through Edelweiss and Avon for an honest review.

My personal bar for seasonal themed romances is incredibly low so take this rating with a grain of salt

Basically, was it seasonally themed? Yes. Was it a little horny? Yes. Was there banter? Yes. Immediate 3 stars. Plus a .5 for the talking cat. I won’t be scrutinizing the plot or writing any further.

i didn’t like the ex hex very much, but read this anyway hoping that things had possibly improved by the second book since the halloween vibe was fun…

everything seemed rushed, there wasn’t really any resolution to the situation with Simon or Morgan, it seemed like the characters fell in love without actually talking to each other very much, and the interactions with magic were decidedly less fun than book 1. it’s cute and easy to get through, but lacking substance. the good news is the book was obviously edited and wasn’t riddled with errors.

A cute sequel. Found the third at a local library and will possibly pick it up soon. The main characters from book 1 are almost entirely absent, they go away on a trip at the beginning of the book. This one has a lot of witchy pride, very much going before multiple falls. Cousin of the lady and brother of the man from book one enter into a marketing war with their witchy shops across the street from each other. Gwen is also trying to mentor and coach/train young witches from the college so they don't destroy the town on their own.

The romance was cute, pretty good communication. Black magic subplot on Mean Girls-style characters from school was only mildly interesting - I think it was paced very poorly. Minimal suspense or horror on that front, resolved for a break too soon, and the break was too strong, then the climax too sudden. The rest of the book was well-paced, but that plot kind of felt like an afterthought.
