this book drags but is not wholly uninteresting for a 17th century novel! It’s honestly entertaining with much a face palm moment as you read the foolish adventures of Don Quixote and his mischiefs as the results of his madness. Do make sure you have the time to read it though or else it will take months to finish it
Cumpliéndose casi el año ya de haber comenzado a leer este libro, doy por terminada esta tarea titánica. Sólo me resta decir que, en mi humilde opinión, el Quijote se merecía más. Digo, . Al final de la novela, Don Quijote de la Mancha me resultó el personaje más conmovedor y triste de la literatura española, junto a Segismundo de [b:La vida es sueño|916114|La vida es sueño|Pedro Calderón de la Barca|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1341266100s/916114.jpg|41702] y nuestro amigo de [b:La vida del Lazarillo de Tormes|61794|La vida del Lazarillo de Tormes|Anonymous|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1170593015s/61794.jpg|362]. De verdad quería ver al Quijote hecho rey de toda la ficción y a Sancho gobernador no de islas, sino de continentes. Ambos se quedan en mi corazón para siempre, en el mío y en el de todos los que aman la libertad y quieren ver justicia en este mundo tan extraño que es el nuestro.

At turns obscenely comic, and heartwarmingly tragic, this is one of the most enjoyable stories I’ve read. The depictions of our knight errant’s psychosis is surprisingly wholesome; even through the insane, usually self-willed travails of Sancho and Quixote, there’s a biting social commentary weaved into the tales of ineluctable humanity contained therein, and god I could not imagine a more hilarious parable to the human condition.
This book is ridiculously long and basically nothing happens. I’m happy to have read it and now will understand references to it, but that’s about all I can say that’s good. Maybe it’s the translation?

What a struggle I had with this big book of old chivalry.
Don Quixote as a character annoyed me so much with his delusions. His adventures from beginning to end were totally foolish and nonsensical to me. I really enjoyed all other interpolated novels in the book more and the characters involved are much more interesting.
However, there were countless knowledges in this book which I wish I had more time to look into them, and as the end was closing in, I gradually developed such a deep pity for the old chivalrous knight and his even more piteous squire. It’s actually a kind of a sad story. Maybe the Knight of the White Moon shouldn’t have intervened with Don Quixote’s journey so that he could die on the road of chivalry, for even though all were his delusions, he’s happily living his dreams. And what a difference Don Quixote might have made, had he taken this adventure when he was a lot more younger!

The way it ended, not sure why we needed the book 2. Gonna write more detailed review after finishing everything.
