350 pages is an estimate.
This book suffered from having a good premise but horrible writing. And probably the worse case of Mary-Sueism I've seen since Sophie "I'm so ugly and petite" Foster. Like you mean shes short, naturally good at fighting and also everything, has sex every 30 pages, has the brooding hot guy fall in love with her at first sight, bonds two extremely powerful dragons immediately? Violet's only true conflict to her character is her inability to stay on her dragon,
which they solve not by teaching her how to stay on or doing leg strengthening exercises but by letting her plummet from the sky. Baby girl that's not how learning works, you're going to kill her (if only she had the capacity to die).

I have a pretty good reading memory, I can read a book and remember what happens with the characters and the plot a good few months later.
I don't remember a thing about the plot.
At all.
I remember her training, before her training, the unwarned of sex scenes, the characters and their roles, but do I remember a single fragment of plot? Absolutely not. I don't even think there was one at this point... and if the plot only builds after I dnfed that's the worst pacing literally ever. Like what do you MEAN I'm 350 pages in and all she's done is freak it with Sir Important Hot Guy and make enemies for being too petite. Don't play with me.

I started reading this book because several of my friends loved it. I didn't expect to like it, at least not as much as they did, but holy shit. The ending absolutely murdered me. I love how Violet is a disabled protagonist, and how incredibly badass she is. I love Xaden for being a complex, flawed character, and I am a sucker for complex world building and fantasy. There are some parts that could've done with another round of editing (some continuity errors in scenes) and I could've done without the explicit sex scenes, but I am excited to read more.
