Okay, so… was was this book? 😭
The writing felt like something straight off Wattpad circa 2012 — and not in a nostalgic way. I honestly had to check if I accidentally downloaded fanfic written by a 13-year-old. Every single character was flatter than a pancake, and don’t even get me started on Violet. Girl was so annoying it physically hurt. And Xaden? Just another broody, tattooed, emotionally unavailable “bad boy” straight from the TikTok romantasy starter pack. Nothing new here.

The plot had potential, I’ll give it that — but it was super predictable. Any tension it could have built got buried under cringey dialogue and Violet’s constant inner monologues about how ~~dangerously hot~~ Xaden is. Like, we get it. Move on.

Oh, and the smut? Questionable at best.

Overall: If you like cliché dark romance with zero depth, this might be your thing. Otherwise… maybe skip it.

The first 3/4 of the book is all adventures, castles, magic, dragons, and young people lusting after each other.
Then it took an abrupt turn to about 10 pages of extremely graphic sex. I have no objection to this, it just felt out of the blue and totally unnecessary.
Also, the author overuses the word “rips” for just about any kind of sudden movement. Once I noticed it I couldn’t stop!
