I was so nervous heading into this one because it seems like the verdict is very love it or hate it, and I'm glad to say I am shocked by how much I loved this book as well as the second and third ones!

The plot is so entertaining and exciting, and the book has such an eclectic cast of amazing characters that all really play a role in moving the plot along, even if they're only there for a short scene. The way the plot twists are written truly leaves you in shock and there are so many things you just won't see coming, especially as you try to learn who Violet can or cannot trust.

This has easily and quickly become one of my favorite series, and I'm glad my TBR is long enough to keep me patient for Book 4!

Trigger warnings for murder, death, violence, blood and war, as well as swearing and some spicy, but consensual, scenes.

(I listened ro the audio book alongside the paperback)
Everything about this book feels so predictable, yet I never see the events coming! I totally understand the hype and immediately started Iron Flame after finishing this one.
Some of my thoughts:
-Dain his highly infuriating, I feel like they could've done more with his character, there seems to be wasted potential there but we'll see how (and if) he develops in further books.
-I never read spicy romantasy books before, experience the first one (for me) with an graphic audiobook was an experience... I think all the kissing noises (even outside the smut) was too much, regular people also kiss regularly, without all the sloshing.
-the dragons!! I'm such a dragon girly and I LOVE how much care Rebecca took into describing each species.
-the world building is superb, dragons feel like they're part of that world, not like there dropped into some sort of setting. All the folklore entails them, people are taken aback by the creatures but similar to us encountering wild animals (except they're 10 times bigger)
-I also really enjoyed the side characters, too many writers put side characters in as that "side characters", but all these characters had their own lives which didn't stop when Violet left. and I really started to care for some of them (and my heart broke towards the end)

I told myself I'd take some time to think about it before writing my review but now it's a whole month later and I still didn't do it so here it goes:

I really liked Fourth Wing. I absolutely understand why it's so popular and I had a great time reading it. It feels kind of familiar and comfortable while still bringing a breath of fresh air (to me, someone who reads a lot of Fantasy / Romantasy).

I predicted a lot of what happened
(which dragon[s] she got, Liam dying, her dads book being important, Xadans secrets etc.)
but it didn't take away from my enjoyment reading it because it just makes sense for the story.

I really like Violet and Xaden. I think they have a fun chemistry going and I'm curious to see how that will change in the next book.
Xadens "betrayal" wasn't a big surprise to me either and I just hope that him "lying" to her won't be a huge thing throughout the next book.

Some other thoughts:
- I love Liam. He was really fun and a great friends and I'll miss him (even though it was very obviously that he had to die)
- I really like Tairn and how grumpy he is. Also the whole mindspeak with the Dragons is a lot of fun!
- I love that her brother is still alive. That was the biggest twist to me and I'm excited for more interactions between him and Violet.
- I had goodwill towards Dain in the beginning and now I'm just mad. He did such a 180! He went from constantly being scared for her safety and wanting her to stay alive to allowing her to go into a deathtrap assuming she would die and NOT WARNING HER simply because it's the rules and she decides she wants to be with Xaden and not him. Truly disgusting behaviour. What a bad friend. (Also stealing her memories without permission? Very icky! Do not like!)
- I'm very excited to see what new Powers Violet will get now that Andarna is fully matured.
- I don't love the whole "oh the government is bad and hiding a bunch of secrets to keep their own people safe at the expensive of everyone else" thing but that's just a me thing.
- I love that Violet is so open about wanting Xaden and also being very clear with her boundaries. She was obsessed with him from the first time she saw him and I love that for her! (Not that he's any better lbr)

I hope I didn't forget any big things but I think this is the most of it. All in all I had a great time and I'll definitely be reading the next part in the series!

Re-read before starting Iron Flame. Might even have been better than the first time!
