Audiobook. I took a pause of several months after the last book bc of events <death of a character/> and bc change of narrators. I appreciated the author’s note at the start of this one, introducing the new narrator. The new narrator is ok, though I dislike the way he voices Ruth - she sounds like a shrew, a witch, a ptarmigan, or any older woman who isn’t the traditional grandmother type. This story was intense! I’m a little scared of what will happen next.

I’m a sucker for the Gamache novels as audiobooks. This one is a bit darker than some of the others, looking at an old case involving a serial killer, but it still delivers the classic Three Pines charm and insightful commentary on grief, human experience, and the bookish introvert’s platonic ideal of a lazy Saturday.
