This is one of my FAVORITE books! I absolutely ADORE Mel and Jack. I've read and listened to this series twice!!

This book confused me a little. On one hand I enjoyed the characters and the setting and wanted to know more but on the other hand I felt like the plot was a bunch of shorts stories jammed together with a basic overarching idea. I think there were too many ideas and not enough direction to keep it making sense. Would make more sense as a set of smaller novels or maybe it makes more sense now in its tv format.

Wow, this was bad. Sexist even by the standards of romance novels and I pretty much hated all the characters. Somehow I had gotten the impression that this was feminist and progressive, but oh dear, no.

Female characters were constantly sexualized and their boobs were described in more detail than their faces.
The book keeps sexualizing and slut shaming a teenager character. Such as calling her a "sex kitten". She is 15.
Somehow men were deemed progressive by this book because they were sitting in a bar, comparing their wives and bragging about impregnating them, even though the wife had clearly told they did not want any more kids. And yes, this was actually presented as a sign of how good these men were and how they respected "their women".

NOPE.

The Netflix show was meh-to-ok, but this book was truly terrible. The writing was awful, the plot was boring, and it's full of lazy stereotypes. (City = bad, loud, dangerous! Country = simple, generous, kind!)

So I wanted to read this since I watched the show and compare and see what was all changed. and HOLY crap more has happen in the 1st book with certain charters that has happen in 3 seasons and some things they have added to the show is no where in the book (unless it happens later) but I was told not to watch the 3rd season it leaves you on a cliffhanger but after reading this book I'm not worried about the cliffhanger. (Unless the show really changed things)

There are 19 books so I will read them here and there

DID NOT FINISH

Way too different than the series.
emotional funny hopeful lighthearted relaxing sad medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The show is one of my guilty pleasures, so I thought I would try the book and was pleasantly surprised! Something to note is that it is very different from the show, which I can understand is not for everyone, but I enjoy both formats in their own unique ways. While I crave the constant Netflix drama, I found myself liking the slow, relaxing pace of the book just as much. I think the show did a good job casting/diversifying the characters, so I just imagine them when I read. I’m eager to read more of the series!

I was looking forward to this, because I absolutely loved the Netflix series.
I hate to say this, but I think I prefer the Netflix series.
Now, don’t get me wrong, this was still a good enough read, but i found myself not really connecting with any of the characters, and just reading it to see if it would get any more interesting. I think I just preferred the integrated storyline that we get in the Netflix series.
I don’t think I’m invested enough to read any of the other books.

I thought it was just what I was looking for. A light, chick-flicky type read with a happy ending.

One of the few where the tv series is better....imho this was pretty boring
