If The Cousins by Karen McManus was a cute Summer romance(yes I am writing this with my free will, no threats involved). I absolutely loved this. I did think at First that this was a mystery book based on the blurb but it is, in fact, not a mystery. If the blurb says that her sister died a year ago and the whole extended Family spendet every summer on their huge estate on Martha‘s Vineyard, this is where my mind goes. But there is no mystery around her death. This Book is about Meredith, who is struggling with the loss of her sister and now she is coming back to a place where every memory is intertwined with her sister. They are returning because her older cousin is getting married and it is a huge event for a whole week. Every summer they spent there, the whole family played the game of Assassin. This week they will play it with all wedding guests. The first night, Meredith is walking around the estate and meets Wit, the groom’s younger brother and they form a pact for the game to help each other with their respective targets. Of course the two grow closer and closer.
I have to say, the setting, the game, the family, the friendships and the lightheartedness made this book perfect. It was really sweet and so fun. I would love to reread it immediately. The book is not carried by some intricate plot but the lighthearted summer vibes, the setting with all the different places on the island (as far as I could see they actually exist) and the game. In my favourite Gossip Girl episode (3x19 I think) they play assassin for Nate’s birthday around New York and since then I loved the idea. Here, it was even better. I loved how seriously the all took this game. And the romance was so cute.

C’était juste ce qu’il me fallait
