Oh I cannot wait to use this book in book talks. It truly is a celebration of poems.

Recipe for a Poem
Recipe for Following Recipes
Recipe for Memories

This won't be everyone's cup of tea. But as a foodie, I love it!

The variety of poems in this book is really interesting. It relates recipes with lots of other topics like reading, courage, and memories. These poems can easily become a writing prompt for students to reflect and share their own ideas and inspirations after reading the poems.

This creative collection explores food and recipes in many different ways - from a recipe for patience (shelling peas to fill a pot) to a recipe for disaster (an open bag of flour on the top shelf), Marilyn Singer has a knack for incorporating her theme in a lot of imaginative ways. Hand to young chefs who are also young wordsmiths.

Great poetry about food and cooking, imaginative and fun. And great recipes.

Fantastic, brushy watercolor illustrations belie lackluster poems.

A joyous celebration of food, poetry, and connection, these poems will serve young readers in countless ways. Not only is FOLLOW THE RECEIPE an excellent pick for pleasure reading, educators will find it endlessly useful as a mentor text for poetry units and beyond and parents will find inspiration for crafts, cooking projects, and even as a launching pad for big, nuanced discussions about community, culture, and responsibility. FOLLOW THE RECIPE is absolutely for young readers, but I think many adult readers, especially those who write or cook, would also enjoy and find meaning in this stunning collaboration from Singer and Priceman.

I really enjoyed this collection of poems! I’m a lover of food and words, so I guess that shouldn’t be surprising. Ha! My favorite was definitely the Recipe For Fairy Tales, though I had several others in close contention.
