I still can't believe I waited so long to read this series which is such a well known classic. I really loved this second book in Montgomery's Anne series. I am by now smitten with her descriptive prose and loved all of the stories of Anne's two years spent teaching in Avonlea. I liked all of the various love stories that Anne becomes privy to and how they all sort of shape her knowledge of what love really looks like and what it doesn't look like and the entire theme of preconceptions that runs throughout the book.

A childhood classic that I listened to on audiobook. I'm falling in love with Anne and the other characters all over again. It is so interesting listening to this book as an adult. It is a different perspective.

I've been re-reading the series. This time around, Anne of Avonlea was even more delightful than in years past. I relate so much to teenage Anne and her exploits in trying to keep order with small children. I especially love the way friendships develop in this story. The relationships are beautiful and fulfill something deep within my soul.

I absolutely adore these characters, and the last page,, MY HEART.
Something was just, off? The descriptions were just as flowery and gorgeous. But the language was odd. And I -know- this was made in a different era, still, I was very uncomfortable with the strange messages about punishing children.
I'm sorry to say I just really wanted more Gilbert and less Davy + Dora.

I like Anne of Avonlea, but reading it right after the ever-charming Anne of Green Gables was disappointing. I'm putting off re-reading Anne of the Island for a while.
