I did not know what to expect when starting this book, but I can say I was hooked from the very beginning. All of the characters were so unique and complex.
Rodion was such a tragic character, and he wanted to be so much more than he was ever capable of being. It took Rodion so long to realize how many people really loved and cared for him in his life. Even when he committed the horrible crime, his family and friends showed pure devotion to him through it all. Rodion’s crime caused a ripple of tragedy and pain throughout his family and community. His family and friends saw his entire being change and darken. The community around him saw his erratic and bizarre behavior, and he consistently wore his guilt on his sleeve. His guilt manifested into illness and delirium, and he was constantly fighting the reality of the crime he committed. Lastly, Razumikhin was the only good man in this book and I’ll die on that hill.
