Intriguing premise for a book - one church committee member's perspective of the committee's process in selecting the next pastor/minister/leader.

A novel about a mainline church!?! That also made me laugh? Wow. I loved reading about this search committee, congregational culture, and colorful (if sometimes flat) church personalities - because it's a world I know so well. The narrator was relatable to me: someone who loves the community and what it stands for, even Sundays often feel a bit dull. Sometimes the story and church politics are quite painful - and the ending was not what I'd hoped for, but it's not an unrealistic one. As an Episcopalian, I appreciated learning more about Unitarian Universalist church culture. The recipes didn't do much for me.

3.5 while I was pulled into this quirky story of a Unitarian Universalist Church minister search committee, I found the process a bit drawn out and frustrating at times. I did love the author’s interspersed food writing & plan to make a couple of the included recipes.

This one is a hard one to rate. As a UU, it kind of pained me to read, especially the ending. I'm not sure there were any likeable characters and I'm sad to hear this is based on an actual ministerial search.
