I feel like I was book-fished. It took me way too long to finish this book.
I thought it was going to be about a woman who when to meet her boyfriend's family and they turn out to be carnivores or something. I thought the book was going to give me "Us" or "You" vibes but it's about a race of naked mole rats who disguise themselves as the family and then kidnaps them.
We never learn what these rat things are, what their purpose is, or where they come from. Why is there a giant skeleton of "Mother" in the basement? Who are these creepy ass children? Where do the souls in the chimney go?
AND WTF WAS UP WITH CONNIES SPIDER HAND?
The author also touches on some heavy family issues - but they're only alluded to never spoken about directly.
The story drags on and on. The only reason I finished is because I ain't no quitter.
Basically if you are not into sci fi even the slightest bit this is not for you.

The words "niggling doubt" twice on one page was enough to tell me this book would drive me absolutely insane 🙃
