The more I read the more it seemed to be a mishmash of random modern horror movies.

I’ve never wanted to simultaneously laugh and cringe in horror at the same time before this book. This is my second AM book and to say I’m hooked on his writing would be an understatement. The way that the creatures were described had me cackling while envisioning a human sized Rufus. But also cringing with the different torture methods they used. And I gagged a bit at the description of Father.

My only issue with this book is that Evan and Connie managed to survive and then the book just ends with them driving off into the sunrise. I have so many questions! Do they last as a couple because of the trauma bond? Do they split up because she blames him for her near death experience? I need to know!

Overall, 4.5/5 stars on this one.

Connie is nervous about meeting her boyfriend Evan's cold and emotionally distant family at their luxurious summer home. However, upon arrival, she's surprised by their unexpected warmth and friendliness. While helping with dinner, Connie overhears strange noises from the basement, prompting her to investigate. Curiosity leads her down into the darkness, where she soon realizes that this seemingly idyllic weekend may turn into a terrifying nightmare.

What the fuck did I just read?! This was a wild ride and I loved every second of it! I didn't know if this was going to go the psychological, supernatural, home evasion, or body horror route, and I think not knowing makes it more fun, so you won't catch me telling you what to expect. But I do know that if you like weird horror, and can handle quite a bit of gore, then this is the book for you! I think just a bit more explanation around certain parts of this book, would have made this a five star read. I did walk away with some unanswered questions, and some of those are ok, but I have a dying need to understand a major part of this book that was not explained at all. Maybe it went over my head or maybe it was intended to be a bit more ambiguous.

I hope you’re hungry….for nothing
