Not my favorite start to a series, but I remember this taking a few books to pick up -- and while it's been a while since I read it, I could pick up on some things here that will be important in later books, which makes it more subtle than I realized the first time. Enjoyable!
3.5 stars rounded up. It is an interesting world filled with characters who are both (neither?) good and bad, non-human moralities and an urban location you don't see often (San Fransisco). The setting is built well but the story was a bit of a dud. Is was basically magical Rocky in San Fran. Toby's main super power seems to be the ability to survive getting her ass kicked every 10 pages. I might read the next book if I find it cheap but there are others in line first.
A wonderful blend of mystery and fey intrigue. I’m definitely hooked!
Loved it. I wish I could read it again. I can't wait for the next one to come out/arrive at my doorstep (via wispfox express probably).
Every once in awhile I come apon a book that just grabs me and hooks me in. That was the case with Rosemary and Rue. Wondering around the book store, I saw the title and picked it up to take a gander. I read the back and think this should be good. I buy it, bring it home and put it on the to be read pile. I finished reading it today. I liked it so much I wanted to write a review. I am no pro but this is what I think....
Rosemary and Rue is a great blend of fantasy, mystery, folk lure and faerie tales. A true urban fantasy.
October " Toby" Daye, a changling(half human half fae), a stunning woman with a can't back down attitude. Just trying to live her life until a major death in the fae world pulls Toby out of her mundane life, and back into a life that she wanted to forget. Calling apon people that she wished she did not have to. Doing everything to keep herself alive and get to the bottom of the murder.
THis book will keep you turning the pages until the end and when you think you have it figured out, you get to guess again.
This book gets my highest rating.

The heroine gets her butt kicked for 99% of the novel. On top of that it's repetitive and drags. Not sure it's worth picking up.
Diving into the sequel now!
If I could sum it up, I’d describe it as a folk version of Jessica Jones with a much less annoying protag. It’s a detective mystery series with fantasy blended into it. There’s a hint of romance, and I’ll admit I had to skim the ending when I realized there were THREE potential love interests (you know, to avoid investing myself in a potentially annoying ending). But really, it boils down to one, and it seems like it’ll be a helluva long road before there’s fruition (unless for some reason we go from 0 to 60 in one of the following books).
It’s entertaining, and slightly addictive. Since I live in the Bay Area, I LOVE all the San Francisco references. I like the cast of characters, but I feel like I need longer with them before I really get attached. I’d be happier with a smidge more tension in the romance, but there’s potential for a slow burn, and I’m here for it!

A fun and easy read. Basically your typical detective noir story with urban fantasy fairies.
Seems decent but not great, I just wasn't feeling it.
