I've had this series on my TBR list for a long time, and I'm glad I finally got around to starting it!

January is half-human and half-fae and for a while tries to ride the line between the two with her human family and her fae liege. But then something terrible happens, and once Toby recovers she prefers to avoid everyone who knew her "before" altogether, human or fae.

When the one fae noble that helped Toby dies, she binds Toby to her in the process. Toby has no choice but to investigate the death, even if it leads to her own. This will not be a pleasant trip down memory lane.

This is basically an investigatory procedural in the world of the fae. Toby spends a fair amount of time confronting her past and then getting her ass kicked. But overall I liked her, and I liked the world enough to be curious about where things are going to go. This book probably isn't as strong as it could be, but I enjoyed it.

The book was ok. I feel there is alot of potential for this character and the ideas surrounding her so I will continue to read the next book. I did find the book a little dry and lost my interest a few times, but I did enjoy the character of October Day.

loved this soooooooooo much

Pretty good book. Would rate it 3.8 stars if it were abailable

Maybe I was not in the mood to read this. I thought the ideas and the characters were there but it could have been further developed. I've read better Fairy detective novels that were less predictable and less wandering recklessly without direction. I might revisit this 11 book ongoing series at a later date but as of right now I have no attachment to the characters to see how their lives progress.

Why had I never heard of these books until recently, and why I had I not read them before now? This book was so wonderful. I loved the portrayal of San Francisco, the Faerie Kingdoms, and all the various types of fae involved. I didn't even catch on to who the villain was until not long before Toby did (although it WAS before her). I'm definitely going to be reading the next book as well.
