Interesting play but you need to know the mythology of Oedipus to understand the drama so I suggest doing research on him before reading to understand the symbolism in the play.

They kill us for their sport."

um wow this was really something

not the worst thing i’ve had to read but def one of the more.. interesting

I rarely like reading plays (I prefer to watch them), but I actually enjoyed this! I read this for AP Literature and also for my Greek Mythology class, and I have to say that even the second time around I continued to be interested-I focused less on the plot and more on the characters and the way that this play was written, which kept me more engaged.
I'm also a Cognitive Science major and I've read a lot about Oedipus complexes, so reading the story behind that Freudian concept was kind of fun!

This one just kept getting weirder and weirder. Still good though.

Read this for a school assignment, but I still really enjoyed it. Nice, short read. Solid 4.5 stars.

The formatting is very wonky with this edition. All of the text runs together and you have to pay a bit more attention to be able to differentiate the dialog, but it was still readable. Epic tragedy.

Exceptional and masterfully crafted play...I enjoyed it..clearly unveils a tragic hero in a play that is filled with humour, sadness and love all in one.

(Ending) Chorus:

"Look ye, countrymen and Thebans, this is Oedipus the great,
He who knew the Sphinx's riddle and was mightiest in our state.
Who of all our townsmen gazed not on his fame with envious eyes?
Now, in what a sea of troubles sunk and overwhelmed he lies!
Therefore wait to see life's ending ere thou count one mortal blest;
Wait till free from pain and sorrow he has gained his final rest."

In my opinion, stabbing out your eyes is a little dramatic.
