It was a simple book and pretty straight forward. I like the element of the book written like a play. There was lots of foreshadowing. It was nice to read a short story.
Though some of the story is hard to follow along with, I generally loved the story. I wish it was a bit more understandable, but still a great Greek tragedy. And it deals with an important issue that many of us can't bear; the idea that we're stuck with what we're given and that we can't change it.
I told myself I would review everything I read this year, but like... I have no energy to review a play by Sophocles. It was for school. I already have to write an essay about it.
Like I guess to sum up my feelings I can say:
The play was obviously well thought out and designed, everything made sense, there was an abundance of great metaphors, lots of interesting motifs, A+ example of a classic Greek tragedy. It's not a 4 stars as in I loved it and would read it again, it's a 4 stars as in it was a classic Greek tragedy that kept me engaged, and my mind wasn't wondering to things I'd rather be doing when we discussed it in class. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What a tragic story!!! Oedipus maybe the most tragic hero? ( I'm not sure if he is to be called hero, though for me he is kind of) of the whole literary world. He was born to Laius and Jocasta and it was professed that the son born to Lauis from Jocasta will kill him and marry his mother. Well Lauis got rid of the son and gave it to a shephard which in turn landed up with another king named polybus and his wife merope. But somehow oedipus comes to know about the profecy which means killing his own sire and marrying his own mother. To avoid that he left his parents. Well first act of heroism.
On his journey he came across few men and ended up killing them. When he went to Thebes the king of thebes was dead. He answered the sphinx and became the king of Thebes and married Jocasta. Well can you find him evil or cruel or guilty of the deeds he did? I cannot. When he came to know about polybus' death he mourned and yet he was scared of bedding merope.
But the cruelty of prophecy struck him anyways. The city got the plague as the murdered king wasn't offered justice. So he called up the seer who in turn blames him for everything. Oedipus thigh in denial still tried to find out tge truth about it. He called for creon jocasta's brother and asked him. And at the end it struck to him that The men he killed in self defense were lauis and his guards and he had married his own mother n had 2 sons and 2 daughters too. Knowing this Jocasta committed suicide. Again I see no fault of his and yet he was asked to leave everything behind. He did everything in good faith. Will continue the second part to find out what happened next !!!
