I love reading Oedipus simply because of the amount of irony, it makes for such a fun read!

I knew the story of Ödipus already from school (latin class) but I never read the play until it was discussed in a lecture at university. I was surpriesed how interesting, riveting and touching it actually is. I definetly felt with the characters and enjoyed the reading. Would recommend.
“What good were eyes to me? Nothing I could see could bring me joy”
this play feels like shovelling thumbtacks into your mouth. sophocles wasn't lying that play can tragedy
It's pretty astounding that Sophocles could make this play so good even though everyone knows the ending from the start. His skillful use of irony is amazing.
My girls, if you could only understand, I'd have so much to say. I'd like you pray for this: to live where time allows, and have a better life than the man who fathered you.
