If you are familiar with Scaredy Squirrel, you know that he is extremely risk averse so of course, "Scaredy Squirrel never goes camping. He'd rather be comfortable...." As usual, he has some legitimate concerns, but he also fears really random things such as zippers. For the seasoned camper, this book could cause an outbreak of giggles between his carefully thought out wilderness outfit and his elaborate plans. Be prepared to laugh through Scaredy's marvelous escapades. My family has camped out many times so this was great fun. It's my favorite Scaredy book yet.

Scaredy Squirrel is uncomfortable with the idea of camping. In fact, Scardey Squirrel is afraid of encountering skunks, mosquitoes, penguins, and even zippers! Instead of camping, Scardey Squirrel sets up a television so he can watch camping shows. But, he needs to find an electrical outlet and that means going into the woods! Will Scardey Squirrel survive to tell his story around the campfire?
This book is perfect for children who are preparing to go camping and "scary" things that they might encounter. I love Scardey Squirrel books because it shows children that it is okay to be afraid of certain things. Scardey Squirrel books do not work in storytime. The busy photographs make it difficult to interpret with a large (or even small) crowd of kids. Best suited for one on one reading.

Scaredy Squirrel is afraid of camping; his idea of camping is his tv in a tree. But he needs electricity for his tv. He devises a plan to get power by going through the camp ground. There are many dangers along the way, but Scaredy learns that camping might not be so bad after all. Lovely story, wonderful illustrations. I received a copy of this book through netgalley.
Advice from Scaredy squirrel on how to go camping. Fun story that is silly.
The first actual book my son learned to read was Scaredy Squirrel at Night by Melanie Watt. I'm still half certain that the only reason he learned to read is because I got tired of reading the same book to him three times at bedtime. Every single night. He's had a favourite author since he knew what an author was, and that author has always been Melanie Watt; so when I got the opportunity to get a copy of Scaredy Squirrel goes Camping by Melanie Watt before anyone else I knew I had to read it with my son.
If you've never read or even heard of the Scaredy Squirrel books, then you need to understand that the series is just as the title suggests: Scaredy is a Squirrel who is afraid of everything and would rather stay in his nice, safe tree where nothing bad ever happens. Except then Scaredy needs to face his fears. He always draws up a plan of some kind to do what needs to be done, the plan inevitably fails, but Scaredy learns that it wasn't anything to really be frightened of anyway, while still cautioning common sense. In Scaredy Squirrel at Night he keeps a fire extinguisher, for example, because a squirrel can never be too safe.
Scaredy Squirrel goes Camping is no different: Scaredy isn't too fond of the idea of actually going camping outdoors, and he'd rather watch camping shows from the comfort of his own couch. The only problem is he needs to plug in his TV... and the electrical outlet is on the other side of the campground! In true Scaredy Squirrel fashion he suits up, makes a plan, and goes on an adventure to do what needs to be done, and along the way he faces up to his fears.
This is the perfect book for kids who are a little afraid of camping, or even kids who just want to giggle as Scaredy panics when things aren't part of the plan. While my son loves camping, he still loved this story and wanted to read it all over again as soon as the story was over. I cannot recommend this, or the Scaredy Squirrel series, enough to any parent.

Scaredy Squirrel returns to combat his fear of nature and the season of camping. He must allude many fierce problems on the campground to reach an electrical outlet to watch TV. Can he survive!?! Of course! Scaredy Squirrel has a plan!
Such a silly book that begs to read to children with great emotion. It's a fun read that readers will appreciate. (Even if they don't camp.)

If I based my picture book reviews purely on my own analysis this would be a four star. However, my kids responses always factor in with picture books and my kids LOVE this book.
