balzac parle moins mv, on a compris tu sais utiliser tous les procédés de français qui existent mais tu n’avais pas besoin de tout utiliser dès que tu avais l’occasion dans une seule œuvre

There was no intrigue to me as I could predict the plot line exactly. The writing was phenomenal, of course, but it wasn't enough to keep me going.

বালজাকের এই বইটার গুডরিডস ডিসক্রিপশন পড়ে ফ্যান্টাসি বা ম্যাজিক রিয়্যালিজম মনে হইছিলো। একই সাথে বইটা লা কোমেদি য়ুমেনের (দ্য হিউম্যান কমেডি) অংশ। বালজাক মনুষ্য জীবন ও তার বিষয়াদির আদি-অন্ত নিয়ে ৯০+ খানা উপন্যাস লিখছেন হিউম্যান কমেডিতে। তন্মধ্যে এইখানা আমার পড়া প্রথম বই।
যাই হোক, আন্দাজ করছিলাম এইটা নিশ্চই সোশাল কমেন্ট্রি, ফিলোসফি কপচানো হবে ফ্যান্টাসির আড়ালে। পইড়া দেখি ঘটনা উল্টো। এইটা পুরোদস্তর বড়সড় আলাপ, পড়তে নিয়ে অবস্কিউর ফিলোসফি বই ঠাউরেছি। ফ্যান্টাসি গল্প অবকাঠামো মাত্র, সরু কংকাল।
প্রোটাগনিস্ট আত্মহত্যা করতে গিয়ে ঘটনাক্রমে এক টুকরো লাল গাধার শুকনো চামড়া পায়। এরপর সে যাই 'ইচ্ছে' করে, আলাদিনের চেরাগের মত সে ইচ্ছে পূর্ণ হয়। কিন্তু দেয়ার ইজ এ ক্যাচ, যত ইচ্ছে পূরণ হবে, চামড়ার টুকরোও তত ছোট হবে, সেই সাথে প্রোটাগনিস্টের হায়াতও। প্রতি ইচ্ছের বাস্তবায়নে ইচ্ছেপোষকের দিন ফুরায়ে আসবে।
বই শেষে নিশ্চিত না গল্পের ডেলিবারেট মেটাফোর আর আমার বোঝাপড়া একই লাইনে কিনা। অনলাইনে আলোচনা দেখতে মন চাইতেছেনা। টায়ার্ড হয়ে গেছি পড়ে।
লেখার স্টাইল খুব ভালো লাগছে অবশ্য। দ্য হিউম্যান কমেডির একাধিক পাঠতব্যে রাখলাম।

I think I need some time to reflect on this one. My immediate thought is that this contains several moments of Balzac at his best and several other of him at his worst. The beginning in the gambling den is pure Balzacian brilliance… which is followed up by a clumsy bit of narrative progression where the fantasy components don't seem to meld very smoothly with the vivid world which has built. However, the book continues in a typically Balzacian fashion from there, and ironically becomes a bit less interesting while doing so.
The final third of the book handles the merging of fantasy and realism much better than the beginning does, and it works on a purely narrative plane. Atypically for Balzac, several of his digressions seem to hurt the story rather than enhance it here.
I think I sound like I'm bitching about it, but I'm not. At his worst, Balzac is more interesting than most other authors at their best, and in spite of it's several flaws, this book has some of the most fascinating quotes and insights of any of his works that I know. So it's hard not to consider this a masterpiece in spite of myself.
