Chalk Outlines of Snow Angels is one of my favorite poetry collections, by one of my favorite poets. I have been following her since 2008, so when I heard about the release of her collection, I immediately purchased it.

It speaks to the plight of black people, the injustice, disappointments, struggles, strife, and the love.

The metaphoric and symbolist flow of Jasmine's lyricism has always blown my mind. I was also glad to see a few favorites from her spoken word videos, and actually read and analyze every line. It's something I can't do with a lot of poetry of today.

I enjoyed every poem; shed a few heart's tears through some and placed my fist in the air at others. She will always be in my Top 5 poets of all time, and this book just solidified everything I knew the first time I heard her spit.

What's your favorite book by a relatively unknown author in the "book community?" Drop your answers or a pink heart in the comments below, or on any of my social medias.

Love, peace, and dope reading!

Soul ache poetry

This is deep soul ache poetry. This is beauty and sorrow, sin and repentance poetry. Carve Dear Ex Lover on my grave.

Easily one of my favorite poets, Jasmine Mans succeeded in writing a book that is as gut wrenching as it is beautiful. Her words pack a punch, and her performances are magical. She is who I aspire to be as a writer, as a black girl, as a poet.
