Idea is really good, and there are times where it shines, but damn, is the writing long winded, the plot go all over the place, the concept of having it be collected journal entries not even matter, and still has just a flash of 1800's sexism.

This started off very promising! I loved Jonathan Harker’s POV in Transylvania and then… we change pov’s and it’s downhill from there. Such a boring book. I feel like Dracula is a “classic” because of all the adaptations/stories/movies of the original because literally everyone else did a better job than this. The writing style seriously diminishes any possible tension and the constant jumping between characters was not my thing. Large quantities of information are constantly repeated. The treatment/comments on women are so so exhausting & the “thoughts” that the women had about the men (gag me please). Also wasn’t expecting so much religious commentary; main characters compare themselves to crusaders eliminating “evil”

Tense and creepy start, but, quickly became slow and was painfully long. I greatly enjoyed the prose and structure though.

It is clearly of its time. I appreciated the attempt at feminism but the female characters were very one note. And there is a heavy emphasis on demonizing otherness.
