the writing style of this novel is charmingly funny and page turning organic. this was a thoughtful depiction of mental illness that was done so with anonymity towards the specific diagnosis. as a future mental health counselor, i thought this was lovely to see as it prevents complying more stigma to disorders or giving sort-of-fictionalized symptoms diagnosis’s/giving our selves diagnosis’s. there was a unique twist in regards to motherhood and generational trauma. i resonated a lot with this plot and thought it was a great, unique voice to the struggles of cycle breaking and the weight of doing the things like marriage and family while also cycle breaking. i thoroughly enjoyed this novel and will be recommending it to all of my friends.

This book was slow to get into but altogether an interesting read. I think every character in this book was so easy to hate which was probably the point but at times, made it hard to keep reading.

Such an important read for anyone who's had a complicated relationship with the DSM-5, or a family member or friend who has. Also extremely funny.

"I wanted to tell him what had just happened. I wanted to say it was the first time I had been able to decide how to react to something bad, even such a small thing, instead of coming to consciousness in the middle of already reacting. I said I hadn't known you could choose how to feel instead of being overpowered by an emotion from outside yourself. I said I couldn't explain it properly. I didn't feel like a different person, I felt like myself. As though I had been found."

Although the ending was perhaps to happy, I think this was a very insightful depiction of mental health. How it effects the person suffering and the surrounding people.
